Namaqualand, Namibia and South Africa. The region covers an area of 170,000 sq mi (440,000 km²). For the most part of the year the location does not look impressive at all – it is dry, arid and plain. However, between early August and late September, which are the spring seasons in this part of the world, it changes into something surreal.
In spring thousands of colorful flowers start to bloom and spread a fragrant cloud over Namaqualand. Orange and white daisies define the landscape. However, there are hundreds of other flowers, as well. Richtersveld – a part of Namaqualand – is a national park and a World Heritage Site. Many visitors come to see the phenomenon during this time of the year.
