Winter is coming and we are excited to present this list of 10 fabulous places to visit! Skiing and enjoying a nice New Year’s Eve are among the top things to do. But there are also some destinations that are less explored, but nevertheless very exciting during the cold season. So put on your skis and slide through the list.

10. Haffner Creek, British Columbia, Canada

Found in Kootenay National Park, which is a wonderful unspoiled oasis, a World Heritage Site, that attracts hikers, climbers and photographers. Haffner Creek is especially compelling for the adrenaline lovers: its steep rocky walls challange even the most experienced climbers. The visitors are also tempted by the stunning ice pillars and Caveman cave, that features huge stalactites.

When to go there?

Winter is the best time to go to see these gorgeous ice pillars and structures.

9. Aurora Borealis, Iceland

For the past few years the Nordic phenomena has been especially bright and dazzling because of the increased solar activity. The best way to admire the dazzling Aurora is in remote areas, further from city lights. However, they are being visible from anywhere in the country and provide a true Nordic experience.

When to go there?

The show of the lights is visible from middle September to middle April.

8. Hotel & Igloo Village Kakslauttanen, Saariselkä, Finland

Built in the Santa Clause land, the hotel offers an indeed unique and exclusive experience. Glass igloos are scattered in unspoiled Urho Kekkonen National Park. Wonderful views to the forest as well as Northern Lights open. The hotel also offers activities such as winter safaris with huskies, reindeer or snowmobiles, ice-fishing and skiing.

7. Paris, France

There are several good reasons to visit the city at this time of the year. First of all, there are no crowds. Second of all, the capital gets ready for the holidays and sparkles in thousands of colorful lights. Even some museums offer free admissions on first Sundays from November to March. Even more: on January 8 state mandated sales begin and feed shopping frenzy.

Soldes (sales) take place from January 8 to February 11; Christmas markets are open from December to January 6.

6. Montreal, Canada

One of the most beautiful cities in North America gets covered under thick layer of snow each winter. The Old Town, reminiscent of the French architectural influence, becomes especially romantic and festive. The locals and visitors alike spend a lot of time outdoors enjoying the skating rinks, visiting snow carnival and eating at impeccable restaurants.

Montreal is a postcard-pretty town in winter, with white cityscape, thousands of shimmering lights, great food and various cultural and other activities.

5. Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, Alta, Norway

Situated far in the north of Norway, hotel is a great ice-cold getaway. It is made entirely of ice and snow: the temperatures inside vary between 20-25°F (-4 and -7 °C), so the guests have to wrap up in warm sleeping bags and reindeer leather pads to stay warm. Guests are spoiled with traditional Nordic cuisine, saunas, hot tubs, offered scooter safari, Northern Lights hunting, dog sledding and even a winter wedding ceremonies.

When to go there?

The hotel is being constantly reconstructed. It will be rebuild and open from January 6th 2015. The reservations are being accepted all year round.

4. Chamonix Mont Blanc, France

The hub of culture in the continent attracts visitors all year round. It is summer at this time of the year in there, so it might be especially tempting to go if you want to escape sibilant weather in the Northern Hemisphere. The famous Milan Cathedral looks like a snow globe figurine in winter. The city is surrounded with mountains, that create a barrier, which protects from sibilant weather. Therefore the winters are mild, nevertheless a lot of snow occur. A multiple ski resorts in the vicinity of the city attract active enthusiasts. Also numerous festivals, fashion shows, art venues and shopping opportunities will feed your appetite for cultural goods.

1. Step Into the Void, the Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix, France

Another stunning place to visit in the Mont Blanc range. A new glass skywalk has been built in 3842 m (12604 ft) high last year, overlooking the vast landscape to the Alps. The glass box can be reached via The Aiguille du Midi cable car. Although the glass panels are thick and are safe to walk on, the adventure is still for the brave souls.

A wonderful site to visit once in Chamonix. It is also the highest attraction in Europe!
